12 BIBLICAL PRINCIPLES OF FINDING A GODLY MATE Part 3

“If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath of mine. Only do not take my son back there.” Genesis 24:8

Welcome to Heart2Heart devotional. The third principle of finding a Godly Mate is Being realistic and submitting to God’s Sovereignty throughout the Process.

While the chief servant was talking with Abraham, he brought up the possibility of the woman not wanting to return to Canaan, but Abraham replied that God would send his angel to help him. He then added, “If the woman is unwilling to come back with you, then you will be released from this oath of mine” (v. 8).

In seeking a mate, you must be realistic and trust God’s sovereignty over the process. Sometimes, young people seek the Lord’s guidance in dating or courting and they feel God’s peace throughout the process.

But when God allows a break-up or some difficulty to happen, they question or get mad at God. Seeking God’s guidance does not necessarily mean you will find your mate the first time you date somebody or go through a courtship.

Sometimes, God will allow failure or heartbreak either to perfect his will for your life or to test your character so you can be like Christ. Don’t get mad at God that you are still unmarried or your relationship broke up.

Actually, it’s a time to praise and trust him. You must praise God because he knows best. Sometimes, by ending the relationship, he’s protecting you from something potentially hazardous in the future.

No matter the heartbreak, failure or disappointment, I want you to know that God has something better, greater and sweeter for you. In addition, you must realize that God’s primary focus is on your character.

Many times, God will allow seasonal relationships to reveal and test your character issues so He can draw you in to seek him more. He allows seasonal relationships to help you grow, even though it’s for a short time and won’t last long.

Abraham declared that God would guide the process but he also recognized the possibility that God might choose to not bless it. Similarly, you must trust God’s sovereignty as well. In order to find a godly mate, you must be realistic about the process and trust God’s sovereignty. God bless you
