I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please. Song of Sol 2:7

Welcome to Heart2Heart devotional. We have 2 devotionals for today, one for singles and the other for couples. This one is for singles only. If you are married, read the other write up for couples. Singles, let’s now continue from where we stopped yesterday on the 3 dangerous lies most singles believe.

LIE # 3: A LITTLE KISSING WON’T HURT: Have you ever met a single lady or guy who fell into sexual sin and the person said that prior to that time, there wasn’t any form of physical contact or intimacy between them?

They never held hands, hugged, or kissed. They just woke up one day and found themselves having sex. No! It isn’t possible.

One of the biggest mistakes most singles’ make is thinking that when God says wait until you are married before you have sex, what God means is wait until you are married before there is penetration.

Every other thing like hugging, kissing, necking or petting is okay. It is when there is penetration that there’s a problem; that you have committed sin. In fact for some people, Satan takes the lie much further.

He makes them believe that even if there’s penetration, so far as you two are serious about yourselves and have intentions of getting married, you haven’t done anything wrong.

It is when you have no intention whatsoever of marrying someone and you have sex with that person that you have done something wrong. But that’s a lie, a big lie.

Here’s the truth: “It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control his own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the heathen, who do not know God” I Thess 4:3-5.

You want to hear more of the truth? CATCH THIS: “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body”. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Songs of Solomon repeatedly tells us not to arouse or awaken love until it so desires (Songs of Sol 2:7, 3:5). Simply put, until you are ready, until the time is scripturally right; until you are married and are free to go all the way, don’t toy with sex.

The truth of the matter is that hugging, kissing, necking and petting all have the potential to arouse or awaken sexual desires. These little acts which you may consider as nothing will keep pushing you further via the law of progression and before you know it, you have gone overboard. May God help you in Jesus name. Shalom!
