And the LORD God said, [It is] not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. (KJV) Genesis 2:18
Welcome to Heart2Heart devotional for singles and unmarried people. Today, we shall continue from where we stopped in our yesterday devotional study. We have looked at 2 things you are forbidden to do while you wait for the one. Here are the remaining three.
3. STOP BELIEVING THE LIE THAT SOMEONE SPECIAL WILL MAKE YOU WHOLE: “Are you feeling incomplete? Are you looking for your missing rib? The mindset that you are not complete till you find your missing rib is a lie you need to kill.
You don’t need a warm body beside you to feel complete. You are already complete in him. The bible say, “you are COMPLETE in HIM who is the head of all principalities and powers. Colossians 2:10.
If you are feeling incomplete at the moment, then what you need is not a spouse. What you need is Jesus and him alone knows what you need to satisfy your hungry soul. And with His supernatural ability, He will calm your anxious heart.
4. AVOID LOWERING YOUR STANDARDS: Judges 16 speaks about how Samson was dedicated to God from childhood. And yet, even after knowing that Delilah was going to sell the information to the Philistines, he told her how he could be subdued. Delilah cashed in on the reward for this information, and Samson was captured.
What did Samson gain from Delilah that caused him to enter into such a destructive relationship? We don’t know what caused Samson to fall in love with Delilah. But we do know that if he had kept his standards and not lowered them, his story would have gone very differently.
Failing to establish solid standards opens the door for unpleasant and sometimes ugly surprises. It also tosses wisdom out the window, and plunges into the I-can-change-him/her deception. No one can change another person. Stop trying to!
PEN THIS DOWN: Never marry anyone who loves you more than he or she loves God. When a future spouse loves God above all, priorities are in the correct order.
5. AVOID NEGLECTING YOUR TRUE WORTH AND BEAUTY: The psalmist describes how we were made: “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well.” Psalm 139:13-14
Wonderfully? That’s how God handcrafted you. Your duty is to maintain that creation by exfoliating impurities of sin, letting go of any trace of inferiority, letting go of worries and applying the foundation of God’s promises.
The end result is a radiance that glows from within. That quality will attract that special someone who is also praying for a spouse with inner beauty.
As you wait for that special someone, God is waiting for you too. As we watch the clock ticking, He also waits to find you faithful to His Word. As you nurse the void in your heart, he waits to find you trusting in His promises. God bless you.
